Pematahan Dormansi Benih Aren (Arenga pinnata Merr.) dengan Perendaman dalam Berbagai Konsentrasi Asam Klorida
The development of aren palm plants is highly dependent on the seeds used, which come exclusively from seeds. One problem in the provision of aren palm seeds is seed dormancy. This issue can be addressed by soaking the seeds in HCl solution. This study aims to determine the effect of soaking aren palm seeds in various concentrations of HCl solution and identify the optimal concentration of HCl solution for germination and growth. This research was conducted at the Soil Science Laboratory, Plant Breeding Laboratory, and Greenhouse of the Faculty of Agriculture, Riau University, over four months from September 2023 to January 2024. The research was conducted experimentally using a completely randomized design (CRD). The treatment in this study involved soaking palm seeds in 5 different HCl concentrations: A = 0% HCl (control), B = 1% HCl, C = 2% HCl, D = 3% HCl, and E = 4% HCl. Each treatment was repeated four times. The results showed that soaking palm seeds in various concentrations of HCl was able to break seed dormancy. HCl accelerated the time of apocol emergence, the time of plumula emergence, increased germination, germination index value, and dry weight per seedling, but did not increase seedling height or seedling root length.
