Prarancangan Pabrik Etil Benzena Dari Etilen Dan Benzena Dengan Proses Mobil/Badger
ABSTRACT
This preliminary plant design aims to meet domestic demand and reduce reliance on imported intermediate chemicals, specifically ethylbenzene, which serves as the main raw material in styrene production and its derivatives. The plant is designed using the Mobil/Badger process, involving the alkylation reaction between ethylene and benzene with a ZSM-5 catalyst. The plant will be located in Cilegon, Banten, with a production capacity of 240,000 tons/year, taking into account the availability of raw materials, transportation infrastructure, utilities, and workforce. The process design includes raw material preparation, the main reaction in a fixed-bed reactor, and product separation and purification through two distillation columns. The main product, high-purity ethylbenzene (99.8%), is intended for domestic styrene industries and export markets. Economic analysis shows a Gross Profit Margin (GPM) of Rp170,500/kg, with other feasibility parameters such as an Internal Rate of Return (IRR) of 45.81%, Return on Investment (ROI) of 36.78%, Payback Period (PBP) of 2.47 years, and Break-Even Point (BEP) at 34.41% production capacity. Based on the technical and economic assessments, this ethylbenzene plant is feasible for commercial establishment and operation in Indonesia.
