ABSTRACT
The sedimentation rate in a slurry is the speed at which solid particles settle out
of the liquid due to the force of gravity. A dispersant is a dispersing agent used to
ensure that the particles in the GCC slurry remain stable, do not clump together,
and do not settle. This study aims to determine the effect of dispersant dosage on
the sedimentation rate, viscosity, and solid content of the GCC slurry. The
parameters in this study include variations in dispersant dosage added to the
volume of supernatant, sedimentation rate, and viscosity values of the GCC
slurry. The data collected for this research was obtained primarily through
laboratory experiments, followed by calculations to determine the sedimentation
rate. Based on the analysis conducted, the dispersant dosage with the lowest
supernatant volume was found to be 5.8 kg/ton, with the lowest and most stable
sedimentation rate also observed at a dispersant dosage of 5.8 kg/ton. At
dispersant dosages ranging from 5.4 to 5.8 kg/ton, the viscosity of the slurry
tended to decrease, while at dispersant dosages ranging from 5.8 to 6.2 kg/ton,
the viscosity of the slurry tended to increase. Therefore, it can be concluded that
the most appropriate dispersant dosage to stabilize the particles in the GCC
slurry, preventing clumping and settling, is 5.8 kg/ton.
