Diplomasi Publik Qatar Dalam penyelenggaraan Piala Dunia Fifa 2022
The FIFA World Cup is the most prestigious and most-watched international soccer competition in the world. The tournament is held every four years, except during World War II (1942 and 1946). For the first time, Qatar was selected to host the World Cup in 2022. Qatar is leveraging the hosting of the FIFA World Cup to promote its cultural values and dispel negative perceptions of Islam held by the global community. Therefore, this study focuses on how Qatar is implementing its public diplomacy strategies in hosting the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
This research is theoretically built using a constructivism perspective and supported by the theory of Public Diplomacy proposed by Geoffrey Cowen. A qualitative approach is used in this research, with a descriptive analysis method with data collection techniques in the form of books, journals, research documents, articles, internet pages and other relevant sources.
The results of the study show that Qatar's public diplomacy through monologue, dialogue and collaboration has an important role in the successful organization of the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Through public diplomacy, Qatar carries out various strategies in the implementation of the event, ranging from providing public discussion rooms, providing places of worship, performing Islamic and Qatari culture, campaigning through posters, logos and accessible websites, as well as through the hospitality of the Qatari people who welcome guests and supporters.
