Pengalaman Komunikasi Dan Konsep Diri Perempuan Dewasa Awal Yang Tidak Memiliki Peran Ayah (Fatherless) Di Kota Dumai
This study examines the phenomenon of communication experiences and self- concept in early adult women who fatherless in Dumai City, where the phenomenon of fatherlessness occurs since childhood due to irresponsible fathers and divorce. The absence of a father's role in a child's growth affects early adulthood. In women, the phenomenon of fatherlessness has more significant impact. Women define themselves based on the quality of relationships with others. The researcher wants to explore the conscious experiences received from the surrounding environment for early adult women who are fatherless, so this experience affects their self-concept.
This research method uses a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach. The subjects in this study were four people who were fatherless early adult women. The subjects were determined through snowball techniques. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation. Data analysis techniques with data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The technique for checking the validity of the data uses triangulation.
The results of the study show that communication experiences in early adult women who are fatherless occur in various environments, namely social circles and families, where there are pleasant and unpleasant communication experiences. Pleasant communication experiences in the form of freedom, feel tougher, attention and appreciated. Unpleasant communication experiences in the form of insults, being shunned and hostile, being exploited, negative views, not getting defense, get ridiculed, and being blamed. The self-image of fatherless early adult women tends to be influenced by unpleasant experiences, in the form of being secretive, feeling inferior and not confident, thirsting for affection, and having unstable emotions. The self-esteem of fatherless early adult women tend to have low self-esteem.
