Kinetika Reaksi Upgrading Bio-oil Melalui Proses Esterifikasi dengan Katalisator Biochar Tersulfonasi dan Ni – Biochar
Development and research related to the utilization of biomass is currently motivated by the depletion of the main fuel source reserves derived from fossils. The limited fossil energy sources lead to the need for renewable energy development and energy conservation called green energy development. Biomass utilization is one of the strategic issues in renewable energy development. In Indonesia, hundreds of millions of tons of agricultural waste are produced every year. Palm fronds are one of the abundant biomass wastes in Indonesia. Bio-oil from palm fronds which is expected as renewable energy can be produced through pyrolysis process. However, bio-oil cannot be used directly as fuel because it contains many mixed compounds. Therefore, upgrading with esterification process using variable temperature and catalysts (sulfonated biochar and Ni-biochar) is a solution offered in improving the quality of bio-oil.
This research will study the kinetics of the esterification reaction using sulfonated biochar and Ni-biochar catalysts and variations in temperature (40oC, 50 oC, 60 and 70 oC), 4% catalyst concentration, methanol: bio-oil molar ratio of 5:1, and reaction time of 60 minutes to obtain the effect of the use of catalysts on the temperature used and obtain the reaction rate equation from the use of catalysts based on the validated reaction order.
