a study on the seventh grade students’ vocabulary mastery on descriptive texts at smpn 3 siak
Vocabulary mastery is the core of communication. It is almost impossible to acquire fluency in English without a good grasp of vocabulary. Words are the tools of communication, and a student's ability to master them significantly influences how well they understand and use English in various contexts. The purpose of this study was to find out the level of vocabulary mastery on descriptive texts of the seventh-grade students at SMPN 3 Siak. The research applied a quantitative descriptive design, with two classes as total sampling. This study used tests to collect the data with forty questions based on the vocabulary of descriptive texts. The sample for this research was 32 students in VII-1 and VII-II. According to the result, the average score is 35.75 out of 40 (equivalent to approximately 89.4%). The results of the vocabulary mastery test provide valuable insights into students’ readiness to comprehend and produce descriptive texts. The generally high scores suggest that students at SMPN 3 Siak possess a solid foundation in vocabulary, which is crucial for academic success in English.
