The decline in the image of DPRD of Riau Province due to negative issues related to the performance of its members such as alleged misuse of fictitious budgets has triggered public distrust. In response to this, the Public Relations division of DPRD of Riau Province utilizes the Instagram account @dprd.riau as a strategic communication medium to restore the institution’s positive image, including during recent student demonstrations. This study aims to analyze the public relations management of DPRD of Riau Province in managing the Instagram account @dprd.riau through five public relations management functions: planning, organizing, communicating, controlling, and evaluating.
This research uses the public relations management concept by Ruslan and applies a qualitative research method. Data were collected through interviews with four informants selected using purposive sampling, direct observation of the Instagram account @dprd.riau and the DPRD of Riau Province office, as well as documentation. The data were analyzed through the stages of data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. Technique triangulation was used to test the validity of the data.
The results show that the Public Relations division of DPRD of Riau Province carries out structured content planning, organizes its work by forming a team-based work system for account management, and communicates information through informative and communicative visual narratives. Controlling is carried out to optimize the use of the account based on input from various parties, including comments on the account. Evaluation is conducted after the monthly controlling process to align the content with public needs. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that the Public Relations division of DPRD of Riau Province has implemented effective public relations management in handling the Instagram account @dprd.riau, as reflected in the improvement of the institution’s public image.
