The phenomenon of the white group by the productive age community in the city of Pekanbaru in the 2024 election is of special concern, considering that this age group consists of various generations and has a great influence on political dynamics in Indonesia. The high number of golput among the productive age raises questions about the meaning and motive behind the decision not to use the right to vote, especially amid high expectations for the active role of this group in the democratic process. This research aims to uncover the meaning and motives of golput that develop among people of productive age in the city of Pekanbaru in the 2024 election.
The research employs a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach. Through this approach, author seeks to gain a comprehensive understanding of the experiences, perspectives, and reasons underlying the decision to abstain from voting (golput) among the productive age group in Pekanbaru City. This study uses data collection techniques through in-depth interviews and documentation, aiming to explore the subjective experiences of the informants. The search for informants used purposive sampling techniques. The analysis of this research was conducted interactively, including data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing, while the technique for verifying the validity of the data used is observation extension technique.
The conclusion the meaning of abstaining from voting (golput) among the productive age group is very diverse, ranging from disappointment with government performance, apathy towards the political process, personal principles or beliefs, to conditional factors such as technical constraints and emergency situations. The research result show that this study emphasizes that the golput phenomenon among the productive age population cannot be simplified as mere apathy, but rather is a complex response to political dynamics, personal experiences, and the social conditions surrounding them. This research is expected to contribute to a deeper understanding of the political behavior of the productive age population and serve as a basis for efforts to increase political participation in the upcoming elections.
