Analisis Potensi Pelet Biomassa Kulit Batang Sagu Sebagai Bahan Co-Firing

ABSTRACT
Sago bark has potential as an alternative raw material for environmentally
friendly bioenergy, with the potential bio-pellets from sago bark capable of
producing a calorific value of around 4,855 kcal/kg, thus meeting the biomass
pellet standard for energy. This study aims to analyze the effect of co-firing
variation of sago bark biomass pellets based on SNI 8951:2020, to assess the cofiring
potential of sago bark biomass pellets, and to calculate exhaust gas
emissions from the mass balance of the best co-firing composition variation. The
method in this research was torrefaction at 300°C for 30 minutes applied to the
biopellets, followed by testing the characteristics of co-firing results of sago bark
biopellets: KSB 1 (100%:0%), KSB 2 (95%:5%), KSB 3 (90%:10%), KSB 4
(50%:50%), and KSB 5 (0%:100%). The results showed that co-firing variations
of sago bark biopellets affect the physical characteristics, where mixing with
biopellets improved the quality of the resulting fuel. The sago bark biopellets
produced met the SNI 8951:2020 standards, although the ash content slightly
exceeded the quality standard. The best co-firing variation was found in KSB 4
(50% coal and 50% pellets), with a moisture content of 20.53%, ash content of
12.05%, volatile matter of 34.18%, fixed carbon of 33.24%, calorific value of
4,574.39 kcal/kg, hydrophobic pellets with a density of 0.61 g/cm³. Based on the
ultimate analysis of the KSB 4 sample, the composition was 45.84% carbon,
4.25% hydrogen, 22.36% oxygen, 0.16% sulfur, and 0.48% nitrogen. The mass
balance calculations also showed that the CO₂, SO₂, NO₂ (fuel) and NO₂ (air)
emissions from the KSB 4 sample produced were 127,061.2596 kg/hour, 241.9072
kg/hour, 362,8594 kg/jam, and 399.301,9431 kg/hour, respectively.
