Karakteristik Microcrystalline Cellulose Dari Rumput Laut Merah (Eucheuma Cottonii)
This study aims to determine the microcrystalline cellulose characteristics of seaweed Eucheuma cottonii. The reserach was conducted by using experimental method, that was extracting the seaweed Eucheuma cottonii by hydrolysis it in extractor HCl solution for varied concentration (2, 2,5 and 3N) to produce microcrystalline cellulose. The results showed that the seaweed skin was containing of 3,44% water, 3,88% protein, 0,85% fat, 2,4% ash and 89,4% carbohydrate. The result showed that the different concentration of HCl did not effect significantly to the water content, ash content and total plate count of seaweed microcrystalline cellulose. The yield of microcrystalline cellulose was 36,9%. It was pH 6,34, containing of moisture 7,52%, ash 2,42%, and total plate count of 0,93x103cfu/g.
