Aplikasi Oksida Mangan Berlapis Tipe Birnessite Untuk Degradasi Zat Warna Metilen Biru
ABSTRACT
Methylene blue dye (MB) is one of organic compounds that is the most commonly used in many dye industries. Methylene blue is very dangerous for organism and environment due to its resistant and long time for biodegradation. In this investigation, MB was degraded using microporous manganese oxide having birnessite structure. The manganese oxide was prepared using sol-gel method with precursors KMnO4 and glucose. The products were then characterized by various techniques including X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and surface area analyzer (SAA). Results showed that the type of manganese oxide synthesized was a birnessite-type with cotton-sphere like morphology and surface area of 8.892 m²g-1. To optimized the degradation of MB, the reaction parameters such as MB concentration, oxidant volume, amount of catalyst, temperature reaction and reaction timewere varied. The highest degradation of MB by the birnessite-type of manganese oxide is 89.27% with following condition : 25 mL (50 ppm) MB, 100 mg manganese oxide and 5 mL H2O2 at room temperature during 120 minutes.
