Sifat Fisis Dan Mekanis Kayu Terentang (Campnosperma Auriculatum (Blume) Hook. F.) Terpadatkan Berdasarkan Waktu Pengukusan Dan Waktu Kempa
The need of wood to supply the raw materials of the wood processing industry is increasing along with the varied needs of wood products. Meanwhile, the availability of wood from natural forests which has been the foundation for the wood processing industry has diminished, even experiencing scarcity. The wood supply needs requires intensive forest management through the development of plantation forests. Wood originating from plantations is generally a type of fast growing species. One type of fast growing wood is terentang (Campnosperma auriculatum (Blume) Hook. F.). The purpose of this research is to determine the effect of wood compaction process based on steaming time and pressing time against physical and mechanical properties of terentang wood. This research used a complete randomized trial with 2 factorials, that is steaming time factor and pressing time each producing 3 repetitions with press pressure 2,33 MPa at 125℃. The results showed that densification improves the quality of terentang wood. Steaming and pressing treatment improve the mechanical properties (MOR and MOE) and strong classes of terentang wood, from strong class IV to strong classes II and I. The wood densification process has increased the strong class of wood, so that it can be used as a construction raw material.
