Impregnasi Titanium Dioksida (TiO2) Pada Lempung Maredan Untuk Meningkatkan Karakteristiknya Sebagai Material Semikonduktor
Titanium dioxide (TiO2) is a semiconductor which has 3.209 eV of gap energy. In this study, a modification of TiO2 on Maredan natural clay was carried out by impregnation method. Impregnation of TiO2 in clay was carried out to improve the semiconductor properties of TiO2. The resulted TiO2-clays were characterized using FTIR Spectroscopy to identify functional groups and the measurement of gap energy using Ultra Violet Diffuse Reflectant Spectroscopy (UV-DRS). The results showed that O-Ti-O group was found in pure TiO2 at wavenumber 692.47 cm-1 and absorption of TiO2 was detected at 2341.68 cm-1. In activated clay there is Si-O group at wavenumber 696.33 cm-1. TiO2-clay photocatalyst had a vibrational overlap of TiO2 and SiO2 in the range of 400-800 cm-1. Impregnation of TiO2 in clay can reduce gap energy of TiO2 from 3.209 eV to 3.11 eV after the impregnation.
