Usaha Penangkapan Udang Mantis (Harpiosquilla Raphidea) Untuk Perikanan Berkelanjutan Di Kuala Tungkal, Kabupaten Tanjung Jabung Barat, Provinsi Jambi
Mantis shrimp is one of main fishery commodities in Kuala Tungkal, West Tanjung Jabung Regency, Jambi. Generally, there are 125,000 up to 225,000 catches per year and the price for each is Rp.143,600-Rp.180,700. This catch has shown a significant progress since Mantis shrimp becomes one of export commodities from Indonesia to various countries such as to Hong Kong and Taiwan. However, there are some factors contributing to catch sustainability including aquatic environment and social life around the catch. Considering those aspects, this study emphasizes on analyzing the sustainability of mantis shrimps catch through applying a survey method. The results of analysis reveal that maximum coastal area is 22,3 mil. To catch the shrimp, the fishermen used vessels with 5.9 gross tones (GT) and gillnet with 10 cm of mesh. Findings on catch productions show that the number of main catch is 22,3% and the weight is 31.3%, for by-catch the number is only 22,7 % and the weight is 22,3 %, while the numbers of discard reach 55% and the weight is 46,3%. The main catch is dominated by ideal catches including 61,5% out of the total number while by-catch and discard commodities are quite diverse. In terms of economic aspect, this catch has a good economic value which can be assessed through value of Benefit cost ratio (B/C) Rp 637.500, revenue cost ratio (R/C) 5,6 and payback period (PP) 39. Socially, this catch also has a low potential conflict that make it easier to improve. Overall, Mantis shrimp catch in this area has been done well and it has a great opportunity to develop. However, a specific strategy is still needed in order to increase the percentage of the main catch and reduce numbers of by-catch and discard.
