Pemanfaatan Magnetic Biochar Dari Cangkang Sawit Sebagai Adsorben Untuk Penyisihan Cod, Total Suspended Solid, Minyak Dan Lemak Pada Greywater
The growth of population will increase clean water demand. One of several way
that can be done is by treating wastewater and reuse it as an alternative source.
Greywater is wastewater that has not been utilized and discharged into the
environment without prior treatment which can decrease in surface water quality.
The current problem is that greywater discharged into the environment does not
reach the specified quality standards and it can delay the growth of aquatic biota.
This research aims to treating greywater by using the adsorption process using
magnetic biochar from palm shells to remove chemical oxygen demand (COD),
total suspended solid (TSS), oil and grease so that it can reach the specified
quality standards. The research was conducted by determining the best dose and
contact time of magnetic biochar with a dose variation of 1.25-8.55 g/l and
contact time of 30-150 minutes. The results showed that the improvement of dose
and contact time could increase the efficiency of COD, TSS, oil and grease
removal. The best results were obtained at a dose of 8.55 g/l and a contact time of
150 minutes. The removal of COD, TSS, oil and grease in sequence were 87.91%,
88.46% and 99.96%, while the adsorption capacity were 151,20 mg/g, 96 mg/g
and 121.41 mg/g. The use of magnetic biochar from palm shells as an adsorbent
gave the best result in treated water so that could reach the specified quality
standards.
