The research done in the village of Alang Kepayang district of west of west Rengat Indragiri Hulu which aims to know what is the meaning of the ship’s letter tradisional and change in it method used in this research methods that is discussion of this study presented and analyzed (description) with a qualitative approach this research is also supported by the implementation of interview activities in depth to the resource person (informan) which has been determined in advance by the research then the results of the interview obtained a very supportive information in order to esaba on the focus of this research passed on the results of research in this tradition can be some important thing that are divided into to execution of the ships letter tradition itself namely the letter. Letter of ship is a series of seloka is a poem and pantun, which contains the cheries of a two man dating meeting to the marriage master, personal introduction of brother near bridal brother religious advice and hope in married life. Literary works bloking to the malay community in Indragiri. Verse poetry letters that have existed since the first this verse from generation to generation from Indragiri kingdom until the present time the letter is a long poem made by our datok in Indagiri.
