Hubungan Diplomatik Rusia Dan Inggris Pasca Tragedi Salisbury Attack Tahun 2018-2020
This research discusses British and Russian Diplomatic Relations after the incident of attempted murder in Salisbury, England on March 4, 2018. The victim of this incident was Sergei Skripal, a former Russian spy agent who defected and received asylum in Britain after an exchange of prisoners last year in 2010. The incident was known to be caused by the novichock nerve agent after a research was conducted by the chemical weapons prohibition organization, OPCW. This poison was developed during the cold war by the Soviet Union as a chemical weapon that is quite deadly. As a direct action for this attack, Britain expelled 23 Russian diplomats who were serving in the country who then retaliated by displacing the same number of British diplomats.
The research data is obtained from books, journals, web and official documents that support the research hypothesis. The author uses Kenneth Waltz's perspective of neorealism with the international systems analysis level. The theory used is the theory of securitization with the concept of balance of power.
The result of this research is that the case of attempted murder that occurred in Salisbury worsened diplomatic relations between Russia and Britain because these activities threatened British national security. Even so, efforts are still being made to make improvements in bilateral relations between the two countries because there are still many economic and security issues that are in the interests of the two countries.
