Respon Rusia Terhadap Pembangunan Trans Caspian Gas Pipelines
Russia is a super power country who tries to be hegemonon in areas of politics and economy. Trans Caspian gas pipeline development plan that will be built by three Central Asian countries as littoral states in the Caspian Sea region can alarm its position. This development plan also involves the European Union and its ally the United States as the main donors of funds to support development. Russia perceives it as a challenge to its strategic interests. This study described Russian’s effort to abort the planning.
This qualitative research is Offensive Realism perspective by Mearsheimer on International Relations and supported by Rational Choice theory by Charles Glaser and energy security concept. Formulation of all arguments, data, facts, and theoritical framework in this research utilized document analysis methods. Data come from books, journals, news from newspapers and magazines, and websites.
This study showed Russian took measures to abort the project. The Trans Caspian gas pipeline will affect Russia's power in the Central Asia region, which incidentally is a former Soviet Union state. Russia's refusal to build this gas pipeline is supported by Iran, which is also a littoral state in the Caspian region. Eventually, Russia's rejection of the planned gas pipeline construction is one of the factors that the Trans Caspian gas pipeline has not yet been realized.
