Dampak Kerusakan Perairan Penangkapan Akibat Pengoperasian Alat Tangkap Sondong (Push Net) Di Kecamatan Panai Hilir Kabupaten Labuhanbatu Provinsi Sumatera Utara

The potential of fish resources in Panai Hilir District is being exploited, one of which is by using push net. This fishing gear is one of the lift net group, which has a cone bag with a mesh diameter of less than 1 cm and operated by being pushed over the bottom of the water. Continuous use of sondong has the potential to cause damage both to the fishing environment and to have a social impact on fishing communities.
This study was aimed to see the impact of push net operation on the damage to the bottom of the fishing waters, to determine the types of catch (main catch, by catch, and discard), and the social impact of pust net operation on the local community. This research was conducted from February to March 2019 in Sei Barombang Village, Panai Hilir District, Labuhanbatu Regency, North Sumatra Province. The method used is a survey method through direct observation of fishing gear, operating areas, and the number and type of catch.
Based on the results of the study, there were 31 species of push net in Panai Hilir District which were divided into 6 main catch species, 7 by catch species, and 18 discard species, with the proportion of catches respectively 43.69%, 11.14%. and 45.17%. The main catch consists of white shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei), red shrimp (Parapenaeus longirostris), yellow shrimp (Metapenaeus brevicornis), striped shrimp (Parapenaeopsis sculptilis), puput fish (Ilisha megaloptera), and petek fish (Secutor indicius). The average value of water clarity of Panai Hilir District is 47 cm before fishing and 28.78 cm after fishing. This value is classified as low due to the turbid waters where the bottom of the waters is muddy. TSS values range from 122-255 mg / L, which is still classified as not good for marine organisms.
The operation of the push net also causes conflicts in other fishing gear such as with gill net and trawl, where from the results of the questionnaires given to fishermen, 48% feel disturbed, 36% feel very disturbed and only 16% feel that they are not disturbed by the operation of skunks. The operation of sondong also creates catch conflicts with other fishermen who use fishing gear other than push net, where as many as 64% of fishermen feel that their catch is significantly reduced, 26% feel that their catch has decreased and only 10% feel that their catch has not decreased.
