Studi Pengaruh Pelarut Pada Sintesis Magnesium Oksida Dengan Metode Kopresipitasi Sebagai Katalis Basa Padat
Magnesium oxide is a basic metal oxide which has catalytic activity in the triglyceride transesterification reaction, Michael's addition and Knoevenagel condensation. Commercial magnesium oxide has a surface area less than 20 m2/g, thus ineffective in catalytic reaction. Coprecipitation is a synthesis method of inorganic compounds with the simple process and produces the small and uniform particle sizes by high surface area. The purpose of this study is to synthesize dan characterize of magnesium oxide by coprecipitation method with various solvents. The magnesium oxide was synthesized by the reaction between MgCl2.6H2O and KOH using solvents solvents : aquades, methanol, ethanol and butanol under reflux. The synthesized magnesium oxide was characterized using TGA-DSC, FTIR, XRD, SAA and TPD instruments. The X-ray diffractogram phase of the magnesium oxide begins to form at a calcination temperature of 450 oC, and magnesium oxide is the result of synthesis with butanol (MgO/ButOH) as the best result with highest surface area, 156.49 m2/g and highest surface basicity, 2.18 mmol/g.
