ABSTRACT
Riau is one of the provinces in Indonesia which has abundant natural wealth with
Malay culture that is still maintained. One of them is Riau Malay Songket. Songket
preservation can be done by providing a forum for production and learning. The
public get to know ins and outs Riau Malay Songket, the history and the motifs.
And then conduction the Riau malay songket training, but currently there is no
reservoir that can accommodate the production and preservation of songket as a
whole because the access is different for each region than difficult to reach. One of
solution for this problem is will be designed a Riau Malay Songket Gallery in
Pekanbaru by choosing a strategic location. As the provincial capital, Pekanbaru
is more accessible to tourist from inside and outside the region. In addition, the
gallery becomes an adequate for promotional activities, marketing, songket
development, and can display Riau Malay Songket collection with the theme of the
gallery is Fractal Architecture. Fractal applied by the ancestors of the Indonesian
people through textile culture. Motifs on textile as batik and songket which have
patterned element. Fractal architecture is the application of fractal geometri which
is a science of mathematics and discusses forms that self similarity.
