Pembuatan Komposit Lateks Karet Alam- Arang Aktif Kulit Buah Mahoni-Pasir Cor- Serat Ijuk Sebagai Media Penyaringan Air Sungai Kampar
Kampar River is a source of water that is widely used as raw clean water by the
Kampar community. However, the quality of Kampar River water is in the
category of unsuitable for use and consumption due to the disposal of industrial
waste, resident activities, agriculture and fisheries. Therefore, it is necessary to
carry out a water treatment process to improve the water quality, one of which is
using porous materials, namely composite natural rubber latex-activated charcoal
mahogany fruit peel-sand-palm fiber. Composites are materials that are composed
of two or more materials with different phases and produce material with new
properties. In this study, natural rubber latex, activated charcoal from mahogany
fruit peel which activated by 2% (w/v) potassium hydroxide, sand and palm fiber
as raw materials in composite preparation. Composite was made using the mixing
method. The composite resulted was applied in Kampar river water filtration.
Composite was characterized based on mechanic test (compressive strength),
density test, functional group and morphology. The results showed that the
highest compressive strength value was KA composite (a 163.7852 MPa) and the
highest density value was KP composite (a 0.9936 mg L-1). Filtration with KA
composite in water filtration reduces for color, TSS and TDS were 94.28%,
92.13% and 99.81%, respectively. Furthermore, the composite could increase the
pH of river water from 6.1 to 6,7. The water resulted from the composite filtering
process are meet the requirement of PERMENKES RI
No.416/MENKES/PER/IX/1990 and Government Regulation No.82 of 2001.
Based on the data, it can be conclude that the manufacture composite of natural
rubber latex-activated charcoal mahogany fruit peel-sand-palm fiber was able to
improve the water quality of the Kampar Kiri River in Teratak Buluh Village,
Riau.
