Aktivitas Antioksidan Dan Antibakteri Dari Fraksi Aktif Ekstrak Rumput Laut Coklat Sargassum Cinereum
Brown seaweed contains carbohydrates, protein, ash, water, vitamins and
minerals in the form of macro and micro elements, namely potassium (K), sodium
(Na), magnesium (Mg), phosphate (P), iodine (I) and iron ( Fe). Brown seaweed
contains secondary metabolites that are beneficial to health, namely alkaloids,
glycosides, tannins and steroids which are widely used in medicine and the
pharmaceutical industry as well as phenolic and flavonoid compounds that have
inhibitory activity of LDL oxidation, Angiotensin Converting Enzyme (ACE), aamylase,
a -glucosidase.
This study aims to, (a) determine the bioactive components of the extract
fraction of S. cinereum, (b) determine the antioxidant activity and anti-bacterial
activity of the extract fraction of S. cinereum. This research was carried out from
March to June 2021 at the Chemical Laboratory of Fishery Products, Faculty of
Fisheries and Marine Affairs, Riau University, Fisheries Laboratory, Faculty of
Agriculture, Islamic University of Riau and the Microbiology Chamber of
Abdurab Health Vocational School. The method used is an experimental method
by conducting direct experiments and descriptive analysis by identifying bioactive
components, antioxidant tests and antibacterial activity tests of S. cinereum
extract fractions against Salmonella typhi and Staphylococcus aureus bacteria.
The method used is an experimental method by conducting direct experiments
and descriptive analysis by identifying bioactive components, antioxidant tests
and antibacterial activity tests of S. cinereum extract fractions against
Salmonella typhi and Staphylococcus aureus bacteria.
The results of the analysis show that different types of solvents can
dissolve the bioactive components according to the polarity of the solvent used.
The n-hexane fraction showed positive results on the alkaloid, phenolic, flavonoid
and steroid tests. The ethyl acetate fraction showed positive results in all tests
because the ethyl acetate fraction is a semi-polar solvent that can dissolve all
polar and non-polar phytochemical compounds and the butanol fraction shows
positive results in the alkaloid, phenolic and steroid tests because butanol is a
polar solvent capable of attracting organic compounds of alkaloids, phenolics
and steroids but unable to attract flavonoid compounds with a low level of
polarity index because the functional groups attached to them or other
compounds that have functional groups are semi-polar
The results of the analysis showed that the ethyl acetate fraction produced
an IC50 value of 129.682±0.80 ppm with a moderate antioxidant category, the nhexane
fraction produced an IC50 value of 194.797±0.26 ppm with a moderate
xi
antioxidant category and the butanol fraction produced an IC50 value of
400.535±0 .75 ppm with weak antioxidant category. Seaweed extract S. cinereum
is active as an antibacterial with the diameter of the inhibition zone of S.
cinereum extract against Salmonella Typi the strongest produced by butanol
fraction with an average of 26.5 ± 3.53 mm. The diameter of the inhibition zone of
S. cinereum extract against Staphylococcus Aureus bacteria was the strongest
produced by the ethyl fraction.
