Modifikasi Alat Tangkap Togok Untuk Mengurangi Hasil Tangkapan Sampingan (Bycatch) Di Kuala Tungkal, Provinsi Jambi

Togok is a passive fishing gear in the form of a conical net body whose
arms are tied to two poles and the success of catching depends on the current.
Togok is used by fishermen in Kuala Tungkal to catch shrimp (Mysidocea acetes),
but in its operation it produces a lot of bycatch and discards if left unchecked will
affect sustainable fisheries. One of the efforts used to reduce bycatch and discards
is to modify the togok fishing gear. Modification devices used to exclude or reduce
catches are bycatch known as Bycatch Reduction Devices (BRD), one type of BRD
that can be used and installed above the codend as a fish escape window is the
rope BRD.
This study aimed to compare the catches of the tool catches togok
conventional and modification, to determine the percentage of the catch main
catch, the bycatch and discard the fishing gear togok both the codend and cover,
for knowing reduction in catches of main catch, bycatch and discard the fishing
gear modifications togok. This study uses experimental fishing, namely by
carrying out direct fishing operations with local fishermen using conventional
togok fishing gear and modified togok fishing gear for 20 days of catching.
Analyzed using t test, catch composition analysis and catch escape rate. The
parameters measured were the comparison of catches of conventional and
modified togok, the percentage of catches (main catch, bycatch and discarded) in
the sections codend and cover and the reduction in catches (main catch, bycatch
and discarded) in the modified togok.
The results showed that the conventional and modified togok catches
experienced significant differences in which the conventional togok catches
amounted to 398.28 kg and the modified togok catches were 261.27 kg, the
percentage of the main catch was 28% in codend and 19 % on the cover, the
bycatch, is 51% in the codend and 50% on the cover and the discard is 21% in the
codend and 31% on the cover.
Reduction of modified togok catch by using BRD (bycatch reduction
devices) type rope BRD in the main catch is 8.4%, in bycatch is 11.8% and
discard is 17, 1% where the reduction in discards is higher and the lowest is the
main catch.
