Upaya Asean Menyelesaikan Konflik Di Laut China Selatan Dengan China: Analisis Code Of Conduct Tahun 2018

The focus of this paper is to analyze ASEAN's endeavor to resolve conflicts in the South
China Sea with China: Code of Conduct Analysis in 2018, the South China Sea is a sea with
enormous natural resources and the second-largest economic route in the world. China wants to
fully control the South China Sea with a nine-dash line to gain the full advantage in the South
China Sea. ASEAN doesn’t accept the claims made by China since China violates the
International Law of the Sea and harms ASEAN members with directly adjacent to the South
China Sea.
This study uses a neorealism perspective that focuses on the interaction of countries to
survive into an anarchy international structure. The neorealism perspective assumes that
international cooperation will open up opportunities to catch the power for achieve national
interests, especially to maintain the existence of the state (survival). As a purpose to become a
hegemon, a country can influence policies in international cooperation to comply national
interests. Data collection was done through document analysis in this research.
The finding shows ASEAN's strugle to resolve the South China Sea conflict with China in
2018. The path has taken by ASEAN in resolving the South China Sea conflict with China is the
Code of Conduct to resolve the strife. ASEAN and China have been diplomacing to agree on a
non-binding political statement as known as the Declaration on Conduct of the Parties in the
South China Sea (DOC) and the Single Draft COC Negotiating Text of the South China Sea
Code of Conduct (SDNT) which will be the ground for the code of ethics in the South China Sea.
