As one element in the field of education, teachers must be able to place their position as professionals and play an active role in accordance with the demands of a growing society. For this reason, the role of the teacher is not only as a teacher who transfers knowledge, but also as an educator who transfers moral values in order to guide and guide students in learning. Student learning outcomes are largely determined by the quality of teachers. For this reason, the professionalism of teachers in carrying out their duties is very necessary. As stated by Hamalik (2006) that in addition to schools, the pattern, structure and content of the curriculum are the determinants of the success of the learning process, what is no less important is the competence of teachers in teaching and guiding students.
The professional ability of teachers is the key to success in managing teaching and learning activities. Professional competence refers to the ability to understand and master learning materials, structures and scientific methodologies. Meanwhile, personality competence shows the teacher's ability to reflect his attitude such as being confident, inspiring, authoritative and can be used as role models by students. While social competence refers to the ability of teachers to communicate and interact with students, education staff, parents of students, and the surrounding community.
One of the activities held in the context of teacher empowerment is academic supervision carried out by the head of the education unit or school principal. Academic supervision is a series of activities in an effort to help teachers improve and develop their competence in managing the learning process so that learning objectives can be achieved. This means that the essence of academic supervision is to help teachers develop their professionalism. Discipline is an attitude or behavior that every teacher must have. This is very useful for learning activities that will be carried out by teachers both inside and outside the classroom. With the discipline possessed by the teacher, the learning process can run as expected. One of the MGMP activities is to design learning activities and evaluate the development of learning progress. Evaluation of learning progress is carried out regularly and the results are used to refine the next plan.
The formulation of the problem in this study includes; 1) Is there a significant positive contribution of academic supervision to the professional competence of state junior high school teachers in the Rimba Melintang District; 2) Is there a significant positive contribution of discipline in the Subject Teachers' Conference to the professional competence of SMP Negeri teachers in the Rimba Melintang District; 3) Is there a significant positive contribution of academic and disciplinary supervision activities in the Subject Teachers' Conference on the professional competence of State Junior High School teachers in the Rimba Melintang District. The aims of this research include; 1) Knowing the contribution of academic supervision activities to the professional competence of
state junior high school teachers in the Rimba Melintang District; 2) Knowing the magnitude of the contribution of discipline in the Subject Teachers' Conference to the professional competence of teachers in State Junior High Schools in the Rimba Melintang District; 3) Knowing the contribution of academic and disciplinary supervision activities in the Subject Teacher Conference to the professional competence of State Junior High School teachers in the Rimba Melintang District.
This research includes ex-post facto research. The approach used in data analysis in this study uses quantitative analysis. This research also includes correlational research because it aims to reveal the relationship between the independent variable and the dependent variable with quantitative data analysis. Then in this research there are three research variables, namely two independent variables consisting of Academic Supervision (X1), and Discipline in MGMP (X2), and one dependent variable, namely Professional Competence (Y). The population in this study were all SMP Negeri teachers in the Rimba Melintang sub-district as many as 84 people, a sample of 70 teachers. Sampling was also carried out through proportional and random sampling procedures. In this study there are two data collection techniques, namely documentation and questionnaires. This study uses descriptive statistical analysis and inferential statistical analysis. Processing of data for descriptive statistics using Microsoft Excel application and SPSS version 23 for Windows.
The results of the research and discussion in this case include a significant positive contribution of Academic Supervision to Teacher Professional Competence, a significant positive contribution of Discipline in MGMP to Teacher Professional Competence, as well as a significant positive contribution of Academic Supervision and Discipline in MGMP together on Teacher Professional Competence. ; then 1) There was a significant positive contribution of academic supervision to the professional competence of junior high school teachers in the Rimba Melintang sub-district; 2) There was a significant positive contribution of discipline in MGMP to the professional competence of junior high school teachers in Rimba Melintang District; 3) There was a significant positive contribution of academic supervision and discipline in the MGMP to the professional competence of junior high school teachers in the Rimba Melintang sub-district. This means that the better the quality of the implementation of academic supervision and discipline in the MGMP, the better the professional competence of teachers. If the professional competence of teachers increases, it is expected that the quality of education in Indonesia will also increase.
