The principal is a manager who must be able to manage so that all potential schools can function optimally. This can be done if the principal is able to understand very well what his duties and roles as principals are. The principal is a functional person who is given the task of leading a school where the teaching and learning process is held or a place where there is interaction between teachers who give lessons and students who receive lessons. The principal is a person who is given the task by his subordinates to lead a school. The principal as the top manager is responsible for the quality of education in his institution. The principal is the top manager in the school. The pattern of thought will be very influential and even very decisive for the progress of the school. Therefore, it must have the ability to influence, encourage, guide, direct and mobilize teachers, staff, students, parents and other related parties to work or participate in achieving organizational goals.
The principal is often considered to represent the face of the school. Here it appears that the role of the principal is not only an accumulator who collects various potentials of administrators, teachers, employees and students, but also a managerial conceptor who is responsible for their respective contributions to the effectiveness and efficiency of continuing education. The competence of educational insight and management of a school principal must be able to master the foundation of education, master educational policies, and be able to master the concepts of leadership and education management. If a school principal is not able to master these managerial competencies, then a school principal is not in accordance with the Principal Competency Standards (SMP). The managerial ability of the principal is very important in improving one's ability to become a principal. The principal's managerial competence must be possessed by the principal in addition to the competence of other principals. With managerial competence, principals can manage their subordinates so that the performance of an organization can run optimally with good managerial abilities from a principal. One of the factors that affect managerial competence and academic supervision.
Academic supervision activities are not an assessment of teacher performance, which only measures the quality of teachers in fulfilling their main tasks and functions for the purpose of accreditation. In this case, academic supervision activities are a series of activities to help teachers develop their

ability to manage the learning process for the achievement of learning objectives. Thus, in essence, academic supervision is not at all assessing the performance of teachers in managing the learning process, but helping teachers develop their professional abilities. Then the managerial competence of the principal identified is also influenced by interpersonal communication factors. Academic supervision here in the sense of helping teachers achieve their academic goals. Thus, the essence of academic supervision is to assist teachers in developing their professionalism.
This study uses a quantitative approach with the type of research that will be used is the type of explanatory research, namely the type of research that explains the relationship between variables through hypothesis testing. Then in this research there are three research variables, namely two independent variables consisting of Academic Supervision (X1), and Interpersonal Communication (X2), and one dependent variable, namely Managerial Competence (Y). The population in this study were all junior high school principals in Pekanbaru City with a total population of 141 people. The sample in this study was 105 people from the population. The sample was taken randomly based on the lottery. The data collection used by the author was using documentation and questionnaire studies. The data analysis technique used in this research is descriptive statistical analysis and inferential statistical analysis. Processing of data for descriptive statistical analysis in this study using Microsoft Excel and SPSS version 25 for Windows.
The result of this research is that there is a significant and positive influence between the variables of academic supervision on the managerial competence of the head of SMP in Pekanbaru. This means that the higher the academic supervision carried out by the principal, the better the managerial competence as a principal. This means that the teacher is able to improve academic supervision by planning academic supervision, carrying out academic supervision and following up on the results of academic supervision.There was a significant and positive influence of interpersonal communication on the managerial competence of the headmaster of Pekanbaru City Junior High School. This means that the better the interpersonal communication of the principal, the better his managerial competence as a principal. This means that interpersonal communication needs to be improved by the principal such as being open to staff and teachers about school problems, having higher empathy for others, always supporting fellow principals, teachers and school staff, having a positive attitude in oneself and having a positive attitude towards others. a sense of commonality with others.
It was found that there was a significant and positive effect between the variables of academic supervision and interpersonal communication on the managerial competence of the headmaster of Pekanbaru City Junior High School. Thus, good principal managerial competence is the goal of an organization that

must be achieved. For this reason, various efforts are needed so that the objectives of the efforts carried out can produce satisfactory work. This means that the principal's managerial competence is very much needed in carrying out his duties and roles as school principals.
