ABSTRACT
Red brick contains silica oxide and alumina oxide compounds, very suitable to use
as a building material, because it is hard. Red brick can be easily found in
Pekanbaru City with 10.5 million bars production per month in Tenayan Raya
District, Pekanbaru City. Red brick powder is obtained from crushing the red
bricks. The purpose of this study is to determine the utilization of red brick powder
in subbase layer on the bearing capacity of the road. This research is based on
laboratory test by testing the soaked CBR according to Bina Marga 2018. The
subbase layer mixture was made in four variations. Variation I was made without
the red brick powder content results in 91% CBR value. Variation II was made by
using the red brick powder as a substitution material of stone dust with 20% red
brick powder content results in 72% CBR value. Variation III was made by using
the red brick powder as an additive in the mixture with 14% red brick powder
content results in 80% CBR value. Variation IV was made by using the red brick
powder as an additional filler material with 7.87% red brick powder content results
in 101% CBR value. All the CBR values meet the Bina Marga 2018. Red brick
powder as an additional filler material is suitable to use in subbase layer, because
there is an increase in the CBR value when compared to the normal variation, but
it is not recommended to use as a substitution material of stone dust and additive
material in the subbase mixture, because it experienced a decrease in thr CBR value
when compared to the normal variation.
