Pengaruh Pemberian Ekstrak Buah Rhizophora Sp. Terhadap Pembentukan Kolagen Pada Glomerulus Tikus Aterosklerotik
Hyperlipidemia is one of the causes of atherosclerosis and also plays a role in kidney
injury. Hallmark of kidney injury is deposition of extracellular matrix, such as
collagen. This study aimed to analyze the effect of mangrove (Rhizophora sp.) fruit
extract on collagen formation as a marker of kidney injury in glomeruli of atherogenic
diet-fed rats. Sixteen paraffin blocks of Rattus norvegicus rat’s kidney were used in this
study which consisted of 3 groups: standard diet (K1), atherogenic diet (K2), and
atherogenic diet and Rhizophora sp. fruit extract (K3). Rhizophora sp. fruit extract
effect on collagen formation in glomeruli was assessed by histochemical examination
using sirius red staining. Collagen area was counted in 5 fields of microscopic view
and 1 glomerulus was selected in each field of microscopic view. Area of collagen in
glomeruli was counted using Photoshop Image Analysis program. The results showed
that collagen area in atherogenic diet group is higher than standard diet group (2,726
vs 0,029; p=0,019). Rhizophora sp. fruit extract reduced the collagen formation in
glomeruli (2,726 vs 0,938; p=0,069). In conclusion, Rhizophora sp. fruit extract
showed a potential effect to inhibit the collagen formation in glomeruli of atherogenic
diet-fed rats.
