The Kampar Customary Institution (LAK) is an institution that is closely related to efforts to preserve regional cultural values, so this institution has a major role in preserving the culture of the Kampar area. The fact is that Kampar is currently experiencing many changes and shifts in cultural values in society due to advances in science and technology, which in turn provides opportunities for the more neglected customs and culture of Kampar itself. Based on the above, it is felt that it is necessary to know and interesting to see further, how far is the role of Kampar traditional institutions in maintaining or preserving local culture, especially in preserving the culture of its people. The method used in this research is qualitative method. Methods of data collection using interviews, observation and documentation. The data analysis technique used in this research is a qualitative descriptive technique. According to Helaluddin and Hengki Wijaya (2019), to achieve data validity, the following techniques include testing: credibility, transferability, dependability, and certainty tests.
The results of the study indicate that the role of the Kampar Customary Institution in Maintaining Local Cultural Values in Kampar Regency is as follows: 1) Establishing cooperation with the Kampar government in an effort to advance Kampar. 2) Support local government programs in an effort to advance the Kampar community, by not abandoning the local Kampar cultural values as the identity of the Kampar community. 3) Organizing Kampar culture socialization to the younger generation by holding various competitions on Kampar birthday events such as the Basiacuong competition, batobo rhyme competition, competitions, calempong oguong competitions and so on. 4) Other efforts made by the Kampar Customary Institution are to conduct training including training on Kampar traditional wedding processions, bridal makeup training and training on cross-dispute settlement procedures.
