The background of this research is the low mathematical communication ability
(KKM) of students. This study aims to produce valid and practical learning tools
(Sylabus, RPP, and LKPD) to facilitate KKM on the Cartesian coordinate system
material for class VIII SMP Pekanbaru.
The type of research used is research and development. The development of
learning tools uses the ADDIE development model (Analysis, Design, Development,
Implementation, Evaluation). The instruments used are validity data instruments and
practicality data instruments. Instrument validity data obtained from the validation
sheet. Practical data instruments were obtained from student response questionnaires
The first stage at this stage is the analysis stage. The main activity carried out is
to analyze the need for the development of learning tools, some of the analyzes carried
out are needs analysis aimed at knowing the needs of students and teachers related to
learning devices to be used, analysis of learning materials aimed at analyzing the
Cartesian coordinate system material. analysis of student characteristics which aims
to analyze KKM. Task analysis and analysis of learning objectives that aim to
determine the tasks of students in the learning process.
The design stage, the main activity carried out by the researcher was designing
the syllabus, lesson plans and LKPD learning tools, which began with choosing the
format for the learning device, then the researchers designed the initial design that
was in accordance with the format that had been selected. Then the researchers
compiled a validation sheet, practicality and compiled KKM test questions
In the Development phase, the learning tools designed by the researcher are
discussed with the supervisor to obtain suggestions and input so that the learning tools
are better and ready to be validated by the validator. In the Implementation stage, the
results of the validator are analyzed if they are valid, then they are tested on small
groups consisting of 8 students of SMP Negeri 2 Pekanbaru with moderate, high and
low student abilities. After being tested, the researcher gave a student response
questionnaire to obtain the practicality of the LKPD.
Evaluation stage, carried out at each stage of analysis, design, development and
implementation with the aim of being revised. In the design stage, the device design
was revised based on suggestions and criticisms from the supervisor. The development
stage was revised from suggestions and criticisms from supervisors and validator
lecturers until they met the valid criteria. The implementation phase was revised based
on the suggestions and criticisms of the students. In addition, at this stage an analysis
of the quality of learning devices is carried out. The learning device is declared valid
if the minimum level of validity from the validator is between 2.50≤x
