Students’ Perspectives On Video-Teleconferencing Applications As A Platform For English Teaching & Learning
This research identifies students’ perspectives on using VTC applications as a
platform for English teaching & learning in English Study Program, Riau University. The
objectives of the research are to describe: students’ thoughts, impressions, and experiences
during the VTC learning period and students’ profiles in terms of using videoteleconferencing
applications from the students’ perspectives. The descriptive research with
qualitative approach is the method used in this research. The entire sophomores of English
Study Program of Riau University are the population of the research with a class containing
39 students as the sample. Online questionnaire and virtual interview are the method used for
gathering the data. An analysis model from Miles & Huberman (2007) is the method to
analyze the collected data and the data triangulation to validate the findings. The results
show various perspectives on the VTC applications as platform for the English teaching and
learning from both sides, such as, virtual learning experience, learning efficiency,
unsupportive learning environment & equipments, and unreliable internet connections, and
that it is suggested for teachers or lecturers to discover the applications that are perfectly
suitable for them personally to learn and teach and for students to create their own
workspace based on type of setups that they want to prefer.
