ABSTRACT
Wood is one of the materials used in the construction industry and can function as structural or non-structural.The use of wood has increased every year, but this increase in demand is not balanced with the availability of the wood itself, therefore a potential alternative wood is needed in order to balance the demand for the wood. To get replacement wood, you have to look at it.In this study, the wood used was oil palms, due to the large number of potential oil palm plantings in Indonesia.The purpose of this study is to test the flexion resistance of the oil palm.The base of the palm oil wood will be tested for flexion resistance using an epoxy resin coating method.The test standard is based on the SNI ISO 16978:2010 standard for the Universal Testing Machine (UTM).The palm oil trunks have two parts, namely the inside and the margins, and each of these parts has received 3 repetitions of variation.Palm wood without treatment, oil palm wood with epoxy resin covering on the lower side and oil palm wood with epoxy resin covering on the upper and lower sides.The crosssectional area is 40 cm x 5 cm x 1.5 cm.The results of the study that the inner part of the oil palm wood which was given an epoxy resin layer on the bottom side experienced a decrease in flexural strength of 6,89% or 1,148 MPa and the inner wood which was given a layer of epoxy resin on the top and bottom experienced an increase in flexural strength of 4,38 % or 0,769 MPa. In the results of the research, the edges of palm wood which were given a layer of epoxy resin on the bottom side experienced an increase in flexural strength of 17,71% or 4,413 MPa and the inner wood which was given a layer of epoxy resin on the top and bottom experienced a decrease in flexural strength of 12.67% or 3.16 MPa. The inner wood class is obtained from class V wood and at the edges is obtained class V wood based on the 1961 PKKI, this value does not meet the requirements for structural construction materials. The wood can be used as interior and non-construction materials such as door panels, partition boards, and others
