Thesis is a scientific work that is needed to fulfill academic requirements in higher education. At the Department of Electrical Engineering, University of Riau, the thesis process begins with the submission of a thesis title or topic to the thesis coordinator in each study program. The submission process is carried out by students by filling out the google form that has been provided and will then be checked by the thesis coordinator to determine the feasibility of the topic to be appointed as a thesis. One of the considerations for the appropriateness of the title is the level of similarity of the title submitted with the title that has been raised by other students previously. In this process, the determination by the thesis coordinator at the Department of Electrical Engineering UNRI is still done manually or based on the memory of the thesis coordinator for the titles that have been appointed as thesis titles. In solving the problems described above, a website-based system was built. The system development uses the PHP-based Laravel web framework and uses the Rabin-Karp algorithm to perform string matching. This research produces an information system for Detecting Similarities on Thesis Topic at the Department of Electrical Engineering, UNRI. Tests carried out on the system are using Black Box Testing and Usability Testing (USE Questionnaire and Likert scale).
