Strategi Pengelolaan Ekosistem Mangrove Di Kabupaten Langkat Provinsi Sumatera Utara

Mangrove ecosystems were recently degraded due to ecological, social,
legal and economic aspects in Langkat Regency. The ecosystem was facing
related to land conversion, population pressure, rules and sanctions that are not
enforced, and that the difficulty of community livelihoods in the mangrove
ecosystem.
This study aims to analyze the existing condition of the mangrove
ecosystem, analyze factors that influence it, and to formulate a strategy for
sustainable ecosystem in Langkat Regency, North Sumatra. This research hopely
consideration for the local government and the authorities in formulating policies
for the sustainability of mangrove ecosystems in Langkat Regency.
It is appeared that ecological and legal categorized into good aspect,
where as social and aconomic aspect need to improvement. Data were analyzed
descriptively, SWOT analysis appeared with that of S-O strategy.
The results showed that the mangrove forest cover and density were
included in the good category so that there were many economically valuable
mangrove biota that became the livelihoods of the coastal communities of Langkat
Regency. From the aspect of regulation and management, and local wisdom
support the sustainability of the mangrove ecosystem in Langkat Regency.
The S-0 strategy suggest: Improvement of mangrove density of mangrove
forests in several degraded zones in order to maintain the biota of mangrove
associations that have economic value, rehabilitation efforts of the ecosystem are
carried out in collaboration with several parties, including: Government, private
sector, NGOs, academics and the community as well as maximizing mangrove
ecosystem management by confirming the rules and sanctions that have been
stipulated in the mangrove ecosystem management regulations and increasing
mangrove and marine ecotourism programs which are expected to increase
community income. and introduce coastal cultural wisdom.
