ABSTRACT
Leaf springs as a component of the suspension system function to absorb shocks from the road and wheel vibrations so that they are not transmitted to the vehicle body directly and increase the tire's grip on the road surface and support the overall weight of the vehicle, both the weight of the body, engine, passengers, frame and other loads supported on it. The old leaf spring used will experience a decrease in the quality of mechanical properties due to dynamic load that occurs on this component. Decreasing quality of traits this mechanic causes the spring to be unfit for use because will make conditions uncomfortable for the rider and can cause accidents when the spring is subjected to a very heavy load. Therefore, this study aims to redesign the leaf spring on the Mitsubishi Colt Diesel FE 74 HD truck in order to find out how much the maximum stress value, the deflection of the leaf spring and modify the leaf spring of the truck. Autodesk Inventor software is used to obtain stress values, standard leaf spring deflection with leaf spring length of 1.200 mm, width 70 mm, thickness 9 mm, and leaf springs that have been modified with a fixed length of 1.200 mm, width 90 mm, thickness 15 mm. The maximum stress value at a load of 10.000 kg on a standard leaf spring with a width of 70 mm, a thickness of 9 mm is 174.6 Mpa and a deflection of 0.6 mm, while the modified leaf spring with a width of 90 mm and a thickness of 15 mm is 30, 97 Mpa and a deflection of 0.06 mm.
