ABSTRACT
During the regional elections in Bengkalis Regency in 2020 there was intense competition. Candidate pairs for Regent Kasmarni and Bagus Santoso are often hit with negative issues about themselves in the implementation of Pilkada in Bengkalis Regency, starting from the corruption issue of Amril Mukminin (inactive Bengkalis Regent) who is Kasmarni's husband, the issue of political dowry to get several political parties and issues Structured, Systematic and Massive violations (TSM). However, with these negative issues, the Kasmarni and Bagus Santoso candidate pairs were able to quell the negative issues with the help of the bearer party and the success team during the regional elections in Bengkalis Regency in 2020. The problem formulation in this research is how the strategy of the Kasmarni and Bagus Regent Candidates Santoso dampened negative issues in the Pilkada in Bengkalis Regency in 2020.
This research was conducted with the aim of knowing the strategy of the pair of candidates for Regent Kasmarni and Bagus Santoso to reduce negative issues in the Pilkada in Bengkalis Regency in 2020. This research is a descriptive research with a qualitative approach. The data collection techniques used were interviews and documentation. Data analysis techniques used are descriptive and qualitative methods.
The results of this study indicate that in the candidate pair Kasmarni and Bagus Santoso, a strategy to reduce negative issues is used by using an offensive strategy and a defensive strategy. The couple Kasmarni and Bagus Santoso used an offensive strategy by creating campaigns in every village with the help of the supporter party and the Success Team to work together to quell the negative issues they were exposed to. A defensive strategy is used with a defensive attitude to quell negative issues by approaching the community, coming door to door by conveying the vision, mission and programs that are directly related to the needs of the community.
