Pengaruh Variasi Serat Fiberglass Terhadap Kekuatan Tarik Komposit High Density Polyethylene ( The Effect Of Variations Of Fiberglass On Tensile Strength Of High Density Polyethylene Composites)
ABSTRACT
In the industrial world, the use of network pipes is one element that plays
an important role, namely as a production chain. Failures that usually occur in
steel pipe structures that are buried in the ground or in the sea usually occur due
to corrosion attacks, pressure forces from outside. Plastic pipes as a product have
been widely used and used for a long time. This study aims to determine the
tensile strength of fiberglass reinforcing composites with composition variations
between resin and fiberglass based on volume fraction 70% HDPE resin 30%
fiberglass fiber, 75% HDPE resin 25% fiberglass fiber, 80% HDPE resin 20%
fiberglass fiber, then to determine the effect of fiberglass in increasing the tensile
strength of HDPE composites and their advantages over PVC materials.
Specimens were printed using a hot press by pressing and heating on a hot press
with a temperature of 140°C. The mixing of materials was carried out by mixing
in a measuring cup for 3 minutes, for a mold size of 23 cm x 9.5 cm x 1.2 cm, the
specimen was cut for tensile testing using the ASTM D3039 standard on the
specimen. The results of this study obtained tensile strength using fiberglass fiber
with a fraction of 70% vol HDPE resin 30% vol fiberglass obtained an average
strength of 13.774 Mpa with short fiber types and for a fraction of 75% vol HDPE
resin and 25% vol fiberglass obtained strength the average tensile strength of
24.334 Mpa for the type of long fiber and for the tensile strength of PVC material
it is known that the tensile strength of PVC is 7-25 Mpa, the tensile strength of
HDPE fiberglass composite of 24,334 Mpa is sufficient to replace PVC.
