Strategi Pemanfaatan Limbah Sludge Ipal Sebagai Bahan Bakar Alternatif Di Area Industri Pulp And Paper Pangkalan Kerinci Kabupaten Pelalawan Provinsi Riau
The pulp and paper industry capable of producing the WWTP sludge as
much as 500-600 tons/day. The resulting waste is only buried in secured
landfills. Waste sludge that is only managed in landfills potentially will have
negative impact to the people living around the landfill and have a negative
impact on the environment because WWTP sludge is hazardous & toxic waste and
must be handled immediately. One of the environmental treatments that can be
applied is to utilize sludge as an alternative fuel.
This study aims to analyze the existing conditions of sludge, analyzing the
utilization sludge as an alternative biomass fuel and formulating a strategy for
utilizing sludge as an alternative biomass fuel in the Pulp and Paper Pangkalan
Kerinci. The method used in this study was direct observation in the field and
followed by laboratory tests to analyze the feasibility of using sludge and the
results of air emission tests from boilers fuel by WWTP sludge, while social and
economic conditions are carried out by giving questionnaires to stakeholders
involved in the use of WWTP sludge.
The results showed that the availability landfills was limited, the results of
WWTP sludge tests were feasible to be used as alternative fuels, the air emission
test results that had been analyzed obtained a value below the quality stipulated in
PerMenLHK No.15/2019, the type of boiler used was Circulating Fluidized Bed
(CFB) and limited utilization locations as well as several social and economic
conditions that support and hinder the utilization of WWTP sludge as an
alternative fuel.
WWTP sludge of Pulp and Paper Industry is suitable for use as an
alternative fuel and the strategies that have been successfully formulated include:
1) Increasing the types of utilization of sludge by collaborating with local
governments and the private sector to reduce management costs incurred by
industry, 2) Building cooperation with other parties and collaborating with
academics to routinely conduct research and new innovations in the utilization of
sludge, and 3) Conduct management and utilization of sludge according to
provisions in regulations on waste management and utilization hazardous & toxic
waste.
