ABSTRACT
Wood the generally has poor durability, is susceptible to attack by wood destroying organisms, including terentang wood. Low durability class requires preservation efforts as an alternative to meet the various needs of wood. The application of wood preservation technology is one of the efforts that can be made to prevent wood damage and increase its durability value. One of these wood destroying organisms is subterranean termites using environmentally friendly natural ingredients, namely natural preservatives from areca nut seeds. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of areca seed extract on the durability of terentang wood. The research method was carried out using a non-factorial Completely Randomized Design (CRD) consisting of 5 treatments and 10 replications with the observed variables namely termite mortality, weight loss of the test sample and the degree of wood damage. The use of areca seed extract preservatives can affect the durability of terentang wood by reducing the weight loss value of the test sample with the lowest value being 10.34% and affecting the decrease in the level of wood damage with the lowest value 0. Areca seed extract on termite mortality cannot affect the durability of terentang wood because it provides consistent data at the end of the test, so the results of the analysis of variance show insignificant data.
