Pemanfaatan Limbah Serbuk Gergajian Kayu Merbau Sebagai Bahan Pengganti Sebagian Pasir Terhadap Kuat Tekan Mortar
ABSTRACT
Merbau wood is a type of wood that is easily recognized for its fiber texture and is widely used for paneling, flooring, windows and doors. This wood has very low shrinkage, so it is not easily deformed when dried. In this study, the wood waste used was sawdust of merbau wood which was used as a partial replacement for sand in the manufacture of mortar with the aim of knowing the effect of adding merbau sawdust on the compressive strength, volume weight and type of mortar produced. Cube-shaped specimens with a size of 50 mm x 50 mm x 50 mm, then tested after 28 days old. The variations used in this study used cement and sand compositions of 1:2, 1:3 and 1:4 with a mixture of sawdust of merbau wood as much as 0%, 3%, 6%, 9% and 12%. From the results of the mortar compressive strength test, the addition of merbau sawdust with all variations affects the compressive strength where the compressive strength results obtained decreased compared to normal mortar and also affects the volume weight of the mortar where the greater the variation of merbau sawdust, the lighter the mortar gets. From the results of the study it can be concluded that the addition of sawdust of merbau wood affects the decrease in compressive strength and decrease in volume weight of the mortar, but the decrease in compressive strength that occurs does not affect the decrease in the quality of the mortar produced as in normal mortar and mortar with all variations of sawdust in composition of cement and sand 1:2 and normal mortar with a composition of cement and sand 1:3 which is still included in the Type M mortar with a minimum compressive strength of 17.2 MPa which can be used for foundation pairs, reinforced stone walls, mortar for dirty water pipes, mortar retaining walls, and mortar for roads.
