Korelasi Penguasaan Kosakata Dengan Keterampilan Menulis Teks Berita Siswa Kelas VIII SMP Kartika 1-5 Pekanbaru

This study aims to determine the relationship between vocabulary skills and news text writing skills. This study took a sample of class VIII students at SMP Kartika 1-5 Pekanbaru. This type of research is quantitative with the method used in this research is correlation. The data used is in the form of objective tests and performance. The results of data analysis showed that from data processing, namely the level of students' vocabulary mastery was classified as good with an average of 74,636 while students' ability to write news texts was classified as good with an average of 77,634. From the results of the data analysis, it turns out that there is a significant relationship between vocabulary skills and news text writing skills. The existence of this relationship can be seen from the value of the correlation coefficient tested using the Pearson product moment correlation formula. The results of the calculations that have been carried out show that the value of rcount is 0.962> rtable is 0.2681, so between variables X and variable Y are really correlated. The correlation level interpretation table is entered at a scale level of 0.80-1.00 in the high category. The results of testing the hypothesis based on the t test and f test at the 95% level of confidence and degrees of freedom (dk) = n-2, the value of 4,761 > 1,675 and the research f test value of 653,343 > 4.02. Thus H0 is rejected and H1 is accepted because the results of testing the hypothesis prove that there is a significant positive correlation at a percentage of 96.2% between vocabulary skills and news text writing skills for class VIII students of SMP Kartika 1-5 Pekanbaru.
