Science process skills are skills that can be trained and developed in
students in the learning process. This science process skill consists of several
skills which include: observation, classification, observing, predicting, asking
questions, conducting hypotheses, conducting experiments, utilizing
tools/materials, applying concepts and communicating. The importance of this
skill is not only based on basic knowledge in collecting data based on observation
but can also make it easier for students to solve various problems in learning
when connected to the real world of students in their daily lives. However, the
facts on the ground show that learning that is often carried out in schools,
especially in physics subjects today, tends to memorize formulas given by teachers
without being balanced by practicing various skills that students should have, one
of which is science process skills. In the 21st century, one of the skills that must be
developed in students in the 2013 curriculum is science process skills. This aims
to help make it easier for students to face and find solutions to solving problems
in learning. In addition, students' science process skills are very important to
build and apply in the process of teaching and learning activities in class so that
students do not only gain knowledge from theory alone but also from experimental
activities carried out by activity-based students. This is what is able to raise
students' curiosity to gain new knowledge because the science process skills
contain scientific methods in searching, discovering and developing the
knowledge they have because they are directly involved in the learning process.
Based on the results of observations made at SMA Negeri 1 Onohazumba,
South Nias Regency, the teaching and learning process applied in class is still
conventional or uses the lecture method in class, students are more focused on
cognitive mastery abilities alone and do not train students' science process skills.
As a support, based on the learning outcomes data of students' daily test scores on
science process skills that have been obtained by researchers during observations
at SMA Negeri 1 Onohazumba, researchers found that there were still many
students who were not complete in learning physics, especially in the material
elasticity of materials and static fluids that had been will be held in the 2020/2021
academic year. The data shows that students' mastery of science process skills is
still lacking. In material elasticity, 18 students were incomplete, and in static fluid
material, 17 students were incomplete in learning from a total of 34 students.
For this reason, researchers carry out Class Action Research through the
application of the Discovery Learning model in an effort to improve students'
science process skills in class XI MIPA 1 SMA Negeri 1 Onohazumba Academic
Year 2022/2023. The time for conducting the research starts from August 1, 2022
to October 29, 2022. The purpose of this study is to find out how far the teacher's
activity in teaching has increased, students' activity in learning has increased, and
students' science process skills learning outcomes through the application of the
Discovery Learning learning model on elasticity material static materials and

fluids. This research is a Classroom Action Research which refers to John Elliot
who said that each cycle in learning consists of four stages, which include: action
planning, action implementation, action observation, and action reflection. The
data analysis technique used in this study is the N-Gain Score.
The results showed that there was an increase in teacher activity in
teaching, student activity in learning, and student science process skills learning
outcomes in each cycle through the application of the Discovery Learning model.
The average results of teacher activity in teaching in cycle I obtained an average
percentage of 74.24% (enough category), and the implementation of learning in
cycle II was 87.18% (very good category). The results of the average student
activity in cycle I obtained an average percentage of 57.98% (enough category),
and the implementation of learning in cycle II was 73.42% (good category). While
the learning outcomes of students' science process skills obtained an average of
65.94 with classical completeness of 68.75% (Enough category) with an analysis
of the N-Gain Score test of 0.37 and the average value of students' science process
skills learning outcomes in cycle II was obtained of 86.09 with 100% classical
completeness (very good category) and an N-Gain Score test analysis of 0.60.
Based on the description above, it can be concluded that in the
implementation of learning in cycle II through the application of the Discovery
Learning model, it can increase teacher activity in teaching, increase student
activity in learning, and improve learning outcomes in science process skills for
class XI MIPA 1 SMA Negeri 1 Onohazumba.
