Pediculosis capitis is a problem that is often found in the wider community with
symptoms of itching and can even cause irritation of the scalp. Pediculosis is often not
considered a major health problem because it is not a vector borne disease. The
incidence of pediculosis capitis is influenced by several risk factors, including a dense
living environment, personal hygiene and the habits of female students which will
facilitate the occurrence of pediculosis capitis. The purpose of this study was to
determine the relationship between risk factors and the incidence of pediculosis
capitis in female students at the Al-Jauhar Islamic Boarding School, Mandau District,
Bengkalis Regency, Riau Province. The number of students who were examined was
360 students. The results of the examination showed that the incidence of pediculosis
capitis was more common at the age of 15 years old or younger (77.9%). More female
students with more shoulder-length hair (74.5%) were found. The incidence of
pediculosis capitis based on hair type found that the highest number of incidents of
pediculosis capitis were female students with straight hair, namely 137 female
students, but judging from the proportion of the results of the curly hair study (95.7%)
had a higher close relationship to the occurrence of pediculosis capitis. The personal
hygiene of female students was still found to be poor, namely 73.6%, which was
assessed from the frequency of washing their hair, using shared coverings, and
sleeping habits together. A significant relationship was found from the personal
hygiene of female students to the incidence of pediculosis capitis with a p value
