Beban Pencemaran Di Sungai Sibam Kota Pekanbaru Provinsi Riau
Abstract
In the area along the river bank of the Sibam River, there were residential areas, sand mining, and oil palm plantations activities that generate waste that enter that river. To understand the water quality and pollution loads in the Sibam River, a research was conducted in June-August 2022. There were 3 sampling areas, in the upstream, middle area, and in the downstream of the river. Water quality parameters measured were temperature, current velocity, discharge, TSS (Total Suspended Solid), DO (Dissolved Oxygen), BOD (Biological Oxygen Demand), COD (Chemical Oxygen Demand), ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and total phosphate content. The pollutant load was predicted by calculating the actual pollutant load (BPA) and the maximum pollutant load (BPM). The water was categorized as polluted if the actual value was higher than that of the maximum value. The water quality of the river was compared with the Indonesian Government Regulation No 22/2021 Class III. Results shown that the actual values of the Sibam River’s water quality during the study were met the quality standards, except ammonia and nitrite concentration that were higher than those of the standard, they were 0.09 –
0.10 mg/L and 0.07- mg/L, respectively. The other parameters such as COD (Chemical Oxygen Demand) 436.04-3789.27 kg/day, TSS (Total Suspended Solid) 132.48-1052.35 kg/day, nitrite 2.80-16.51 kg/day, nitrate 2.54-16.15 kg/day, ammonia 2.19-13.88 kg/day, and total phosphate 1.52-12.38 kg/day were lower than those of the maximum values. Data obtained shown that the actual load of ammonia and nitrite had exceeded the maximum pollution load and it means that the Sibam River cannot accommodate the load of ammonia and nitrite anymore.
