TOWARDS ANTIBIOTIC USE IN TODDLER PATIENTS WITH ACUTE
RESPIRATORY INFECTIONS (ARI) IN SEVERAL HEALTH CENTERS IN
PEKANBARU CITY

A high incidence of infection followed by irrational use of antibiotics can lead to
antibiotic resistance. Acute Respiratory Infection Disease (ARI) is one of the
diseases that often affects toddlers. Based on the report of the Pekanbaru City
Health Office in 2020, it is stated that the Payung Sekaki Public Health Center,
Harapan Raya Public Health Center, and Pekanbaru Kota Public Health Center
are the three health centers that have the highest incidence of ARI for toddlers.
Mothers have an important role in supervising the use of antibiotics in their
children, so mothers are expected to have good knowledge and behavior about the
use of antibiotics. This study aims to determine the relationship of knowledge to
maternal behavior regarding the use of antibiotics in toddlers. This study is an
analytical study with a cross-sectional design with a total sampling method
involving 78 respondents. The research data was obtained from the results of
guided interviews using a questionnaire consisting of 16 questions about antibiotic
knowledge and 9 questions about behavior in antibiotic use. The results of the study
stated that most respondents had good knowledge (43.6%) and behaved well
(51.3%). The chi-square statistical test shows a relationship of knowledge and
behavior of p=0.001, so it can be concluded that knowledge and behavior have a
significant relationship (p
