Aktivitas Nokturnal Gajah Sumatra (Elephas Maximus Sumatranus) Di Kandang Sosialisasi Pusat Latihan Gajah (Plg) Sebanga
ABSTRACT
The IUCN rates sumatran elephants as critically endangered or highly likely to become extinct in the wild based on their current status. The Sebanga PLG in the Pinggir District of Bengkalis Regency is one of the interesting PLGs for research. The government is currently working to provide an Elephant Training Center (PLG) for the importance of sumatran elephant conservation activities date or task to rehabilitate elephants, be it elephants that are entangled and involved in conflicts with the community or elephants that have difficulty surviving in the wild. Because animal behavior is a movement carried out by animals influenced by environmental relations, conflicts that arise in the Sebanga PLG area, such as plantation land clearing, are serious problems. These conflicts with sumatran elephants can have an impact on both social and individual elephant behavior. Since there haven't been any studies that discuss the elephant behaviors at PLG Sebanga till now, this research is crucial to understanding the perceived effects of the environment's modest changes on elephant activity patterns. In the Sebanga PLG socializing cage, this study sought to ascertain the pattern of elephants' nocturnal behavior and whether or not there were differences between Puja female elephants and Sarma male elephants in each activity. The targeted animal sampling technique was paired with continuous sampling for this study. According to the study's findings, eating behavior lasted the longest, lasting 129,996 seconds for Sarma the male elephant, and 124,218 seconds for Puja the female elephant.
Keywords: sumatran elephant, PLG, behavior, and nocturnal activities.
