ABSTRACT
The fuel often used by Steam Power Plants comes from fossil fuels whose
availability is limited. The limitations of fossil fuels encourage us to find
alternative fuels. One of the alternative fuels that can be used in steam power
plants is biomass. Coconut fiber is a biomass that has the potential to become an
alternative fuel whose availability is abundant in Indragiri Hilir district,
especially in Pulau Burung sub-district. This study aims to calculate the electrical
power generated from the utilization of coconut fiber as an energy source in
Steam Power Plants steam power plants. The method used in this research is to
process quantitative data from coconut fruit production to obtain the availability
of coconut fiber, generated calorific value, steam turbine output work and
generated electrical energy. The results showed that the availability of coconut
fiber with an annual average value of 1103.6599 kg/hour. The minimum heat
value of burning one kilogram of coconut fiber is 18463.1259 kJ. Utilization of
coconut fiber with a flow rate of 86.8556 kg/hour can produce a steam turbine
output power of 83.333 kW and a total electrical power generated of 72.4 kW.
