Learning that is applied to medical students is given so that students succeed in becoming graduates who are responsible and ready when facing the world of work. Indicators of success can be seen through the Grade Point Average (GPA) of a student. Students who achieve a good GPA will be a benchmark for the quality of students in the learning provided. The success of students in achieving a GPA that is in accordance with what is expected is influenced by several factors, one of which is metacognitive. The simplest definition of metacognitive is thinking about thinking. This study aims to determine the relationship between metacognitive skills and GPA in first-year students of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Riau. The population in this study were all first-year students of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Riau. Data was collected using the Metacognitive Awareness Inventory (MAI) questionnaire. The research data were analyzed quantitatively with proportions and statistical analysis using the Spearman test. The results showed that the metacognitive abilities of first-year Index students at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Riau based on cumulative achievements were mostly in the well-developed category. Based on the results that have been tested, it was found that there was no relationship between metacognitive skills and the Grade Point Average for First Year Students at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Riau.
